The Foundation for Child Development’s basic dream--the idea that hard work should lead to a better life--reflects a fundamental American value. For all Americans, it means opportunities to learn throughout the life span, beginning in the early years.  For all children, it means good nutrition and health care. For all parents, it means the chance to provide for, shelter, nurture, and protect their children.  For all workers, it means public policies aimed at making work pay. For all communities and states, it means a package of policies and programs that support working families. For the nation, it means a recommitment to the traditional American values of fairness and justice.
